If you’re struggling to find new content for your social media platforms for your small business, you’re not alone. We can all appreciate what a struggle it can be looking for content for your social media and writing your own blog is a cause for celebration because of the time investment it can be. But just because you’ve written one blog, doesn’t mean you only get one shot at it. A handy way of creating more content is to repurpose the blogs you have already written.
If you’ve only ever created your blog and posted it to your current accounts, you may be missing out on opportunities to reach other audiences. Everybody consumes content differently. Some people respond well to the written word, others prefer images and others love videos. So repurposing and upcycling your old blogs may be just the ticket you need to (a) create new content and (b) reach a wider audience!
Stuck for ideas on how to do this? I’ve listed a few suggestions below with the necessary links.
1. Republish your blog
There are a number of sites where you can submit your blog to be published which will expose your blog to a larger audience. Some of these include Medium, Reddit and Growth Hackers. For more, click here.
2. Create an infographic
Infographics and visual content are perfect for sharing statistics or processes or large pieces of information. There are a number of websites that allow you to create your own infographic including Canva, Piktochart, Visually and Infogram.
3. Create a slidedeck and upload it to Slideshare
If you’re wondering, a slide deck is a term used to describe a collection of slides. Slideshare is a slide hosting service that was acquired by Linkedin in 2012 and allows you to upload files either privately or publicly.
4. Create several quote images from your blog to use for Instagram or Pinterest
I do this often with my blogs because oftentimes the image I use for my cover doesn’t have interesting information on it like quotes or facts. Here’s one I created for this blog:
5. Create a Youtube clip of yourself discussing some of the key points
Now this I haven’t done yet but I will (maybe, someday). Once you’ve created your Youtube clip, then share it on all of your accounts.
6. Create a podcast from it
Appparently this is quite easy. Seemingly it’s just a case of recording yourself reading your blog out loud and uploading it to iTunes. Voila! If you need some more direction on this, I’ve found a great blog here.
7. Turn your blog post into a Webinar
You can take the slide deck that you’ve created (from the above suggestion) and use this for your webinar. Host the interview with someone in your network that has a large following and tap into their audience. Finish the interview off by letting people know they can find more information over on your blog. More.
8. Use a small excerpt from your blog and use it as a Facebook/Twitter/Instagram post
This is a great way to repurpose your blog. Simply use a small piece of copy from your blog, preferably something that make sense on its own and will encourage people to click on to the link and head on over to your website. Make sure you use a good image to accompany the copy.
9. Use a number of your blogs and create a downloadable eBook
I don’t know about you but I certainly have enough blogs to fill a [small] book or two. I’ve been in business four years and I’ve been blogging once a week for at least three of those years (admittedly this last year I have been super duper slack). But this idea is quite a novel (pun unintended) idea and worth considering!
And that’s all I’ve found. Can you suggest other ways to repurpose your blog?
