If you’re someone who has been an employee all your life this question may have crossed your mind but you may have locked it up in the very depth of your soul because it sounds too scary to contemplate even though you would love to try having a home based business…
What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?
This thought has crossed many a mind only to be tucked away and continue slaving away to a boss they don’t like, an office that is a 1 hour communte away each way every day, deadlines to meet etc. That could all be a distant memory.
So here are some tips that may help you decide:
Visualise what you want:
Write down the things you hope to achieve by starting your own business by asking yourself the following questions:
- How much income do you want to earn in 2, 3 then 5 years time?
- What do you want to gain by working from home?
- What will be different?
- What are some of the things you will need to start doing / stop doing to achieve your dream?
- Who will benefit from your having a home based business?
- What are some of the obstacles that could get in your way?
- What resources do you have to overcome them? (these could be your passion, determination, it could be a contact, people you know who could help you etc)
- How will you know you are successful? This question will be key! If you don’t know what will tell whether you’re successful how will you know you have arrived at your destination?
Once you have created your own story, visualise it! If visualising is not your thing then read it out loud. Try to make it as real as physically possible. What will you be feeling? i.e. excitement, passion, happiness, satisfaction etc. What will people be saying to you? i.e.: “wow, you look so relaxed and happy Jack!“ See yourself in a specific piece of clothing.
For those of you who want to take it one step further, make a vision board in the form of a collage with all the pictures that represent your future vision.
Visualise it every day and the rest will fall into place because if you want it enough that’s where your focus and energy will go!
