christmas competition

With only 16 Fridays until Christmas, it’s time to put pen to paper and get started on your social media promotions for Christmas. If you feel like this is too early, remember that promotions such as advent calendars or even a 12 Days Of Christmas promo takes some planning, and then you need to implement it. Before you know it, November will be here and if you’re starting then, it’s a mad rush to get content planned, offers sorted and posts scheduled. The reality is, if you’re leaving it too late you’ll end up doing nothing.

Ideas for social media promotions will differ depending on your business and your marketing goals. If you’re in the hospitality industry, you may wish to use a Christmas campaign to inspire people to visit you. If you are in giftwares, then this is an opportune time to showcase your products and get them on your liker’s wishlists!

If you’d like to run a promotion leading up to Christmas but you’re stuck for ideas, I’ve got a few here that might inspire you:

12 or 25 Days of Christmas/Advent Calendar

Set aside a list of products or services and run an offer a day for each service/product. Limit the offer to that day only and have a direct call to action on your image encouraging people to purchase or book that day. If you run a business to business company, perhaps you could do a 12 Days of Christmas with industry tips and hints.

Christmas Photo Challenge

Create your own photo challenge by making up a list of items from 1 through 25 (or 1 through 12 if you like). Make the corresponding words related to Christmas for example “ornament” or “tree”, “red”, “tradition”. Create a fun and relevant hashtag and promote it on your social media accounts. You could even use a collage of people’s photos as your cover image for Facebook.

Share your holiday tradition

Get your audience to share photos of their favourite family holiday traditions. Use a fun hashtag and have a prize that you know your audience would love.

Christmas selfie promo with your product

Have your likers enter your competition by having them upload a fun selfie with your product and tag it with a hashtag you’ve created for the campaign.

Christmas wishlist with your products

Get your followers to comment with their Christmas wishlist using your products. You may even want to give the winner their entire wishlist? If gifting them with their entire wishlist is an option, I would recommend limiting the number of items on the wishlist to an amount you think is reasonable. You could run this competition a couple of ways:

  1. To run it as a means of adding to your email database, use a third party app that will allow you to collect names and email addresses.
  2. To run it to increase your brand awareness, get people to upload a photo of their wishlist, tag your business in and use a hashtag you’ve created for the promotion.

If you have any other suggestions for Christmas promotions, I’d love to hear them! You can email me at info@hardcastlesocialmedia.com.au or simply comment below. In the meantime, stay engaged, be present and have fun.
