The question I get asked the most about starting a Facebook business page is “do I have to have my personal Facebook profile linked to the Facebook page” and the answer is yes. Yes you do.
Facebook require every business page to be created from a personal page. To allay your fears, please know this:
- people don’t see your personal information on the Facebook page;
- people can’t see that you’re connected to the page;
- people won’t know that you’re managing the page (unless you specifically tell them).
The main advantage of having your Facebook Page connected to your personal account is being able to manage the pages from one login.
The other advantage is being able to easily hand over admin rights to other people and removing yourself from the account.
I manage a number of Facebook pages and they’re all linked to my personal account. As I finish up with those clients, I can easily remove myself from the account.
So that’s it! Yes, you have to have your personal profile linked to your Facebook page, but it doesn’t mean that all of your personal photos, friends or posts will show up on the business page. They are, for all intents and purposes, quite separate. I hope that has helped you and if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to ask me in the comments below! Until next time, stay engaged, be present and have fun!
