In August 2016 Instagram Stories was introduced and controversially, was almost a direct copy of Snapchat. Snapchat lovers declared their undying loyalty to Snapchat and initially ignored Instagram’s offer. But as time has gone on, businesses are starting to realize the implication of using Instagram Stories.
What Is Instagram Stories?
In a nutshell, it is a way to share the moments from your last 24 hours with your followers. You don’t have to worry about over-posting because the images will appear as a slideshow effect. People can fast forward or rewind back through your stories at their leisure. Once you’ve uploaded a photo you can add a filter or add some text. You can also add videos and Instagram recently introduced the Boomerang option into their Stories.
Instagram Stories vs Snapchat
But which is better for your business – Instagram or Snapchat? Not to sound boring and harp on again about target markets, but that is essentially what it comes down to. Who is your target market and are they using Snapchat or are they using Instagram?
When it first launched, I stuck with Snapchat but tentatively tried out the Instagram Stories offering. I knew, however, because of my target market that it made more sense to dedicate my time on Instagram because that’s where most of my target market spend their time. While I find Snapchat a lot of fun, realistically it’s not going to get me in front of my ideal client.
One Productions has provided a very interesting infographic on the direct comparison between Instagram and Snapchat. For me at the moment with the target market I have chosen, it’s a no-brainer, it’s Instagram Stories all the way.
How Do I Create My Own Instagram Story?

To get started on your own Instagram Story, simply click the + symbol at the top left corner. Snap a shot, add a filter, write some copy, or draw a design using the pencil option and then tap the tick. And you’re done!
